Empty Shell

Words By::  ecopoet

Skeleton taking up space

abandoned square footage

plaques displayed on walls

letter’s behind given name

Dichotomy of words

lost:  forgotten

years on display

dark empty shell driven

Warm embraces missed

friendships unestablished

unopened dusty files

remain in locked cabinets

Names to faces

faces to names

third removed ancestry

human memory game

Once lived                  here

and worked               there

Oh! you remember

the one with red hair

Name sounds familiar

bell rings in the distance

street number location

facts stated, for instance

Brief fleck of time

a shell walks the planet

kindness: compassion

never take for granted

Accumulation and titles

sincerely don’t mean a thing

hard empty shells

a vacancy will bring

Fill the true cavity

Triumphantly!  empathy shall win

as a shell opens freely

allowing the treasures of life circle in
